Un drumeţ înfǎşurat într-o mantie groasǎ tocmai trecea pe cînd crivǎţul şi soarele se certau, fiecare suştinînd cǎ e mai puternic. Ei au cǎzut de acord ca acela care va reuşi primul sǎ-l facǎ pe drumeţ sǎ şi scoatǎ haina sǎ fie considerat mai puternic. Zis şi fǎcut; crivǎţul a început sǎ sufle din toatǎ puterea dar cu cît se strǎduia mai mult, cu atît drumeţul se înfǎşura mai mult. In cele din urmǎ vîntul s-a dat bǎtut iar soarele cu razele sale binefǎcǎtoare a reuşit sǎ-l facǎ pe drumeţ sǎ şi lepede haina. Şi astfel crivǎţul a fost silit sǎ recunoascǎ cǎ soarele este totuşi mai puternic. |
The North Wind and the Sun were disputing which was the stronger, when a traveller came along wrapt in a warm cloak. They agreed that the one who first succeeded in making the traveller take his cloak off should be considered stronger than the other. Then the North Wind blew with all his might, but the more he blew the more closely did the traveller fold his cloak around him; and at last the North Wind gave up the attempt. Then the Sun shone out warmly, and immediately the traveller took off his cloak. And so the North Wind was obliged to confess that the Sun was the stronger of the two. |
